West Germany  v Yugoslavia    4-1

This match produced without a doubt the best team performance of the world cup. West Germany were outstanding, they totally dominated the match and made Yugoslavia look very ordinary. Before the tournament West Germany were fancied by many as one of the favorites to win Italia 90. The created many opening in the first half hour and dominated possession. Rudi Voller came close on a couple of occasions early on in the match. On the half hour mark West Germany finally broke the dead lock by a fine goal from german captain Lothar Mattaus, he followed a pass from Stefan reuter and turned and smashed the ball into the back of the net from 20 yards out. Ten minutes later Klinsmann scored a second where he headed a cross from Andreas Brehme. West Germany went into the interval 2-0 up, and deservedly so. The second half continued at the same pace as the first half with the Germans dominating possession, however against the run of play Davor Jozik scored for Yugoslavia, to put them back into the match. Lothar Mattaus instantly replied scoring West Germany’s third and his second, with a fantastic run, beating a couple of Yougoslav players, and smashing ther ball perfectly into the corner of the net from 25 yards out. West Germany continued to pile on the pressure, with Voller coming close again on a couple of occasions. Voller finally scored the goal he deserved with fiftenn minutes left. West Germany could have easily scored a fifth on a few occasions., howver the scoreline remained at 4-1, and West Germany showed the entire world what a quality side they really are.

UA Emirates   v West Germany    1-5
West Germany continued their brilliant form, after there emphatic victory against Yugoslavia, they were hoping for a similar performance against UAE. After dominating the first 35 minutes of play, Rudi Voller finally scored in the 35th minute of the match to give the Germans the lead. Klinsmann immediately made it 2-0 a minute later. Unexpectingly UAE pulled a goal back right after half time with a goal by Khalid Ismail Mubarak. Immediately after Lothar Mattaus scored a third for the Germans, following an Andreas Brehme pass. Uwe Bein scored a fourth for the Germans. Voller then scored his second of the match with 15 minutes to go and ensured an excellent Victory for West Germany against the Asian minnows.

West Germany  v Colombia     1-1
West Germany nearly ruined Colomba’s day, by taking the lead from a very late goal by Pierre Litbarski, howver Colombia equalized in injury time, the move started from an excellent Valderama run, he then supplied the perfect pass to Fredy Rincon, who then scored the equalizer for Colombia, which ensured there place in the final 16.

West Germany V Czechoslovakia  1-0
After 4 good performances in the world cup, west germany were confident that they could beat Czechoslovakia. The Germans had the better of the earlier stage of the match. West germany were awarded a penalty in the 23rd minute which the captain, Lothar Mattaus cooley converted to the back of the net. That penalty was enough to give West Germany a victory that they probably deserved on the day.
