Italy 1990 world cup

With italy hosting Italia 90, many people fancied them to go the distance, in fact if it was not for the lucky Argentinians, Italy may have won the cup by reaching the final. Italy started slow, with narrow victories over Austria and the unfancied United States. It was the game against Czechoslovakia, where Italy stepped up a gear and looked brilliant, Roberto Baggio, scoring the goal of the 1990 world cup in a 2-0 win. After impressive wins against Uruguay and the Republic of ireland in the seocnd round and quarter final respectivly, they eventually lost to Argentina on penalties in the semi finals. They produced an unlikely star in Salvatore Schillaci, who went on to finish as top goal scoring netting in six goals.
