Scotland      v Costa Rica    0 -1
Scotland came into this game knowing that a victory was vital, and they were expected to win. Scottish striker Mo Johnston had a shot brilliantly saved by Luis Conejo. Costa Rica took the lead early in the second half with a goal by Juan Cayasso. Mo Johnston had another effort brilliantly saved late on in the match, which meant Costa Rica won the match 1-0.

Brazil    v Costa Rica    1-0
Brazil knew before the match that Cost Rica were going to be no pushovers, and they weren’t. Muller gave Brazil the lead in the 33rd minute howver Costa Rica had chances to equalize.

Costa Rica    v Sweden        2-1
Sweden were looking to restore some pride back into their game after two disappointing defeats, they started of the match well, with a Stefan Schwarz goal by the half hour mark. Costa Rica scored an equalizer in the 75th minute against the run of play, the goalscorer being Roger Flores. Costa Rica sealed victory with two minutes to go and ensured their place in the second round with a goal by Hernan Medford.

Czechoslovakia V Costa Rica    4-1
Costa Rica proved they were a force to be reckon with in the Group stages, beating both Scotland and Sweeden.  However Costa Rica’s luck ran out, against Czechoslovakia. Thomas Skuhravy gave the Czech’s the lead early on in the first half. Early into the second half Costa Rica leveled the scoring. However Thomas Skuhravy’s second goal of the game put Czechoslovakia back into the lead. They followed this with a goal from Lubos Kubik and Skuhravy sealed victory scoring his third late on in the match.
