Gary Lineker


Gary Lineker’s goal against Argentina in the last eight of the 1986 World cup in Mexico ensured him as world class striker, the goal against Argentina happened to be his sixth goal of the competition, and that made him the leading scorer of the 1986 world cup.

He also netted in four goals during the 1990 World cup, netting in England’s goal in the awful opening Group F game in the 1990 world cup against the Republic of Ireland. He kept his nerve in the classic quarter final game against Cameroon by converting 2 penalties for England to secure them a place in the last four. He also equalized for England late on in the second half in their semi final match against West Germany, however England later on lost that match in Penalties. In total Linker has scored 10 world cup goals.
