Diego Maradona

Maradona is considered by many as the greatest footballer to star in the world cup finals. Making his world cup debut in 1986, Maradona was without doubt the player fo the tournament and was certainly the key to success for the Argentinians in the finals, scoring incredible goals against Belgium and England en route to the final as he helped his nation defeat the Germans 3- 2 in the final. Maradona was named as the best player in the world cup and four years later, helped his nation once again reach the final in Italy. He was most notable in the competition for his brilliance in setting up goals against Romania and Brazil and he was literally man marked in every match, leading him to become the most fouled player in the finals. Argentina eventually lost 1-0 to West Germany in an ill tempered final, which saw a very poor sportsmanship by the Germans. In the USA 1994 finals, Maradona returned and scored one of the goals of the torunament against Greece.
