The final was a poor game which Argentina believed their best hope of beating The Germans was by playing the game for the penalty shoot out. Two Argentine players were very harshly sent off. Argentina were not given a penalty which they deserved and at the other end The Germans were given a penalty which many people believed shouldn’t have been given. Brehme converted the penalty into the back of the net and The Germans were the winners of the 1990 world cup.

World Cup 1998

The final looked appetising with the best team of the tournament Brazil matching up against the hosts France. Rumours over Ronaldo’s fitness were quashed once his name was on the team sheet to face France. The world’s top forward, however, didn’t perform on the night and nearly all the Brazilian side was lacking the spark they had shown throughout the world cup. France finally showed the attacking firepower they have which they hadn’t produced in their previous 3 matches. Zinedine Zidane scored to headed goals and Emmanuel petit comfirmed victory for the French. France won the match 3-0 and the World cup was won by the host nation France sparking a week of celebrations, led by Michel Platini, organiser of the world cup, and France’s greatest ever player, robbed of the world’s greatest prize 16 years prior.
